Accounts: creating one, signing in, and keeping it secure
This page covers everything from landing on the sign in screen to having a working workspace: creating an account, choosing your Apps, confirming your email, signing in, two step verification, and recovering a forgotten password.
Every screen, field, button and message below is described exactly as it appears on screen.
Creating an account
Open /register, or click Create one at the bottom of the sign in screen.
Registration runs as a short guided flow with a progress rail across the top showing three steps: Account, Apps, Details. A fourth screen, confirming your email, appears at the end.
Step 1: Account, who the workspace is for
The screen is headed Create your account and explains: "Every App is free to start and there is no card to enter. First, tell us who this workspace is for."
You choose one of two cards:
Card
Description on screen
Choose this when
Company
"A team or business. Set up your company workspace and invite others."
You will invite colleagues, or you want the workspace to carry your company name
Individual
"Just you. Get a personal workspace with no company details needed."
You are working alone and do not want to fill in company details
Clicking a card moves you straight to the next step. There is no separate Continue button here.
Beneath the cards there are social sign up buttons labelled Sign up, and a link at the bottom: "Already have an account? Sign in".
The practical difference: Company asks for a company name on the Details step and names your workspace after it. Individual skips that and creates a personal workspace. Everything else behaves the same, and either workspace can invite people later.
Step 2: Apps, choosing what your workspace does
The screen is headed Choose your Apps and explains: "Take as many as you like. They are all free, they share the same customers and files, and nothing here asks for a card."
This step decides which Apps your workspace starts with, and it is the single most common source of the question "why can I not see the Projects menu". The answer is almost always that the App was not selected here.
On this screen you can:
Tick any Apps you want. As soon as one is selected, a badge appears beside the heading reading "N selected".
Select all available Apps at once. Apps marked as upcoming are deliberately excluded from Select all, because they are not ready to use yet.
Clear your selection and start again.
The button at the bottom changes to match your choice:
With none selected it reads Continue without Apps.
With one selected it reads Continue with 1 App.
With several it reads Continue with 4 Apps, and so on, with the real count.
If the App list fails to load you see: "We could not load the App list. You can continue and add Apps from Settings once you are in." This is not a dead end. Continue, and add your Apps afterwards.
You are not locked in. Choosing no Apps is a valid choice and you can add them later. What you pick here only decides what your workspace starts with.
Step 3: Details, your account and workspace
The heading depends on the choice you made in step 1: Set up your company for a company workspace, or Create your account for an individual one. An individual workspace shows the note "Just a few details to get your personal workspace ready."

There is a Back link if you want to change your Apps before submitting.
If something else goes wrong the screen shows the reason above the form. If no specific reason is available it reads "Unable to create your account."
Step 4: Verify your email
The final screen is headed Verify your email, with the notice "We sent a 6-digit code to your email."
Open your inbox and find the email with the subject Your email confirmation code.
Type the 6 digit code into the Verification code box. The box shows 123456 as a hint and accepts digits only.
Click the confirm button.
Other controls on this screen:
Resend code sends a fresh code. While it is sending, the link reads "Resending…". If it fails you see "Unable to resend the code."
A back link returns you to the Details step if you need to correct your email address.
If the code does not work you see "Invalid or expired code." Codes expire, so if the email has been sitting in your inbox for a while, request a new one with Resend code rather than retyping the old one.
If the email has not arrived: check the spam folder first, confirm the address you typed on the previous step, then use Resend code. Requesting it over and over does not help, because repeated requests are blocked for a short period.
Signing in
Open /login. The screen is headed Welcome back with the line "Sign in to your account to continue."
The fields
Field
Notes
Email
Shows you@company.com as a hint
Password
Masked. There is an eye icon at the right of the box to reveal what you have typed
Security check
A short sum, for example 10 + 16 =, with a box to type the answer
Beside the Security check there is a refresh icon which gives you a New question if the sum is unclear.
The main button reads Sign in securely. Below it the screen shows two assurances, "Secure login" and "Encrypted connection", and at the bottom "Don't have an account? Create one".
There is also a Forgot password? link beside the Password label, and social sign in buttons labelled Continue.
The security check, and why it exists
The Security check is a simple arithmetic question that confirms a person is signing in rather than an automated script. It changes each time.
Leaving it empty shows: "Please answer the security check to continue."
Answering incorrectly shows: "That answer is not right. Please try again."
If you get a new question, answer the new one. The previous answer is no longer valid.
If sign in fails
The reason appears above the form. If no specific reason is available it reads "Unable to sign in."
"This account has no workspace." This means the account exists but does not currently belong to any workspace. It happens when an invitation was never accepted, or when someone has been removed from the only workspace they belonged to. Ask whoever invited you to send the invitation again.
Two step verification
If two step verification is switched on for your account, a second screen appears after your email and password are accepted. There are three kinds of step, and an account may be asked for more than one in sequence.
Step type 1: a code sent to your email
The screen is headed Check your email, with the line "Enter the 6-digit code we sent to your@email.com." Your address is partly masked.
Open the email with the subject Your sign in verification code.
Type the 6 digits into the box labelled Verification code. It shows 123456 as a hint and accepts digits only.
Click Verify and continue.
Resend code appears under the button on this step only. While sending it reads "Sending…", and on success a message confirms "A new code is on its way to your inbox." If it fails you see "Could not resend the code."
Step type 2: an authenticator app
The screen is headed Authenticator code, with the line "Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app."
Open your authenticator app, read the current 6 digit code for this account, type it into the box labelled Authenticator code, and click Verify and continue. These codes rotate on a timer, so if it is about to change, wait for the next one and use that.
There is no Resend option here, because nothing is sent. The code comes from your own device.
Step type 3: a security PIN
The screen is headed Security PIN, with the line "Enter your account security PIN to continue."
Type your PIN into the box labelled Security PIN and click Verify and continue. A PIN is between 4 and 8 digits.
Messages you can see on any of these steps
Message
What it means
"Enter the 6-digit code."
The box is empty or does not hold exactly 6 digits
"Enter your PIN. It is 4 to 8 digits."
The PIN box does not hold between 4 and 8 digits
"That code didn't work. Please try again."
The code was wrong or has expired
Back to sign in at the bottom abandons the attempt and returns you to the sign in screen. Use it if you signed in as the wrong account.
If more than one step is configured, completing one moves you straight to the next. The box clears itself between steps, so you are never entering a new code over an old one.
Forgetting and resetting your password
On the sign in screen, click Forgot password?.
Enter the email address on your account and submit.
Open the email with the subject Your password reset code.
Enter the code and choose a new password. It must be at least 8 characters.
The reset email also carries the reassurance "If you didn't request this, you can safely ignore this email. Nothing on your account will change." That is accurate: requesting a code does not change anything until a new password is actually set.
Reset codes expire. If the code is refused, request a fresh one rather than retyping the old one.
Joining a workspace you were invited to
An invitation arrives by email with the subject "You've been invited to join [workspace name]". What happens when you click through depends on whether you already have an account:
You already have an account. You land on a page that previews the invitation and lets you accept it, then takes you into the workspace.
You do not have an account yet. You are taken to registration with your email already filled in. Create your account, and accepting the invitation is part of that.
Invitations expire. If yours has, you will not be able to accept it and will need a fresh one from whoever invited you.
Accepting an invitation does not remove you from anywhere else. People commonly belong to several workspaces, and you switch between them once you are signed in.
Keeping your account secure
The Security section of your profile settings is where you manage this. From there you can change your password and set up two step verification, including a verification code by email, an authenticator app, or a security PIN.
When you switch on two step verification by email, we send a confirmation code first, with the subject Your two-factor setup code, so that you prove you can receive it before it is required to sign in.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not see an App I expected, like Projects or Invoicing? Almost always because it was not selected during the Apps step when the workspace was created. Apps can be added afterwards from Settings, so nothing is lost.
Do I have to choose Apps when I sign up? No. Continue without Apps is a valid choice and you can add them later.
Does signing up cost anything? No. The screens say so plainly: every App is free to start and no card is asked for during registration.
What is the sum on the sign in screen? A security check confirming a person is signing in rather than an automated script. Answer the sum shown. If it is unclear, click the refresh icon for a new question, and answer that one instead.
I answered the security check correctly and it still says it is wrong. You have most likely answered the previous question after a new one was generated. Read the sum currently on screen and answer that.
The verification code email has not arrived. Check spam first, then confirm the address you typed. Then use Resend code. Requesting repeatedly does not speed it up, because repeated requests are blocked for a short period.
My code says it is invalid or expired. Codes are short lived. Request a new one with Resend code rather than retyping an older one from an earlier email.
I get "This account has no workspace" when I sign in. Your account exists but does not belong to any workspace right now, usually because an invitation was never accepted or you were removed from the only workspace you were in. Ask to be invited again.
Can I belong to more than one workspace? Yes, and it is common. You switch between them once signed in.
What is the difference between a Company and an Individual account? Company asks for a company name and names the workspace after it, and is meant for teams. Individual skips company details and gives you a personal workspace. Either can invite people later.
I chose Individual but now I am a team. Do I need a new account? No. You can invite people into your existing workspace.
My password is rejected as too short. Passwords must be at least 8 characters.
My phone number is rejected. The country must be selected in the picker beside the number, and the number must be valid for that country. Selecting the wrong country is the usual cause.
I am asked for a code twice when signing in. More than one verification step is configured on your account, for example an authenticator app followed by a PIN. Complete each in turn.
My authenticator code keeps failing. The codes rotate on a timer. If the code was about to change when you typed it, wait for the next one. If it still fails, check that your device clock is set to update automatically, because authenticator codes depend on the time.
I started signing in as the wrong account. Click Back to sign in at the bottom of the verification screen.
Can I turn two step verification off? It is managed in the Security section of your profile settings.
Does asking for a password reset lock me out in the meantime? No. Nothing changes on your account until you actually set a new password.
